The making of “Sometimes home is a person”

What was the inspiration?

This image is made for the series ’Tea tags’ I made together with Norma.
Inspired by labels with questions that a tea make has bound to it’s teabags. For a whole year, Norma saved the labels from the teabags. Each month I had to choose one question that was on them. Norma and I used the questions for inspiration, which I interpreted freely.

The question for ‘Sometimes home is a person’ was ‘what was the last thing you thought about last night?’.Read More »

Global shut down

Monday I asked you all the question 👉🏻👉🏻What gift would you like to have?👈🏻👈🏻

Flight, wings and being invisible were the top 3.

Today I share mine.

I would like to be better at locking out the world sometimes. So I made “Global shut down” as an illustration too that.

I hope you like it, give comments and share it with your friends.

👉🏻👉🏻What gift would you like to have?👈🏻👈🏻

Together with my friend Norma I’m working on a new project. As inspiration for our work we take questions from #pickwick #teatopics.

In the next day’s I will reveal my new work as an answer to the question bit by bit

Sketching Wednesday

Monday I asked you all the question,

“What bothers you quickly?”

Today I show you my sketch of the work made answering that question.

What I absolutely can not stand, and therefore bothers me very much are people with two faces. Why are people two faced? What makes someone suddenly turn from being a friend into an enemy? Is it because they have always been sly, or do they really believe you have slighted them in some way? People are strange creatures, we learn to behave early on in life.

Sketching Wednesday

Monday I asked you all the question,

Who from the past would you like to meet?

Today I show you my sketch of the work made answering that question.

I’m a tremendous fan of the surrealist art movement. Maybe because I am Belgian and we all have a little surrealism in our blood, maybe because I do not find reality compelling enough, perhaps because …
I’ve always been a great admirer of Salvador Dali but in recent months I’ve increasingly appreciated the simplicity and humor of Rene Magritte. So for the moment that’s the gentleman I would gladly spend  a week with, to talk but above all to listen and learn.

Sketching Wednesday

Monday I asked you all the question,

“What is your very first memory?”

Today I show you my sketch of the work made answering that question.
I can remember hardly anything from the age of about 10 years downwards. I have vague recollections of things when I look at a photo mostly because of what people have told me.
The one thing I do remember very vivid is being sad and alone. I really can’t remember a happy time. As long as I can recall I wanted to be dead. I took me 40+ years to finally get rid of those negative feelings. One of the reasons I started making art is to leave behind the emotions of the past, to process them and show kindred spirits that they are not alone.
